His past is guarded, although it's known that his parents moved him and his older brother Mycroft back and forth between England and France, sending Sherlock mostly to schools in England. After college he spent some time in an American Shakespeare company before coming back to England to start his detective buisness. He faked death for a brief spell and went to Switzerland for 'The Great Hiatus'.
